What’s my Purpose?
2.12.21
This morning I had a conversation with one of my favorite people and I felt lead to share what God highlighted in the conversation as an encouragement to those who may be struggling with feeling depressed or discouraged today about their calling and purpose.
You weren’t created to grind or to become a succcess. Worldly success (accomplishment, accolades, fame or fortune) will never dictate our significance. Fruit and productiveness was always meant to be a byproduct of our real purpose, relationship with God. You were created to be loved by God. The Bible says, “Seek first the Kingdom of God, and all these things will be added to you.” The reason I see myself as successful is not because I got on my grind or strived for it in my strength. The reason I feel successful and fulfilled is because I made God my one and only priority.
When you forsake every other worldly thing to pursue Jesus, He suddenly and supernaturally begins giving you all the resources you need for your calling. You’re purpose and your calling are two separate things. Our purpose is intimate and continual relationship with God, it’s being filled with Him at every moment. Our calling is simply the overflow of our purpose. When we’re filled with the love of God, it begins to overflow and create a ministry of pouring out into others what God has already poured into us. If you don’t start with being filled, you’ll have nothing to pour out, which is exactly why all the grinding and striving will never lead you to your true calling. It only leads to burnout and depression.
When you feel yourself slipping into that trap of the enemy to compare your life to others, you can ask yourself one question to know how well you’re doing. The only measure of success in my life has become, “How connected am I to the presence of God?”
I don’t care about the money, I don’t care about the stuff, I don’t care about the title or the platform, I don’t care about what people think of me, because none of those things make me feel accomplished or fulfilled. The only thing that causes me to stay overflowing with joy and peace and the enjoyment of life is connection with Him.
The Bible says “the joy of the Lord is our strength”, and that “in the presence of the Lord is fullness of joy.” So when we’re out of strength and we’ve run out of joy the only simple answer is to get back into His presence. Not just one time in the morning, but all through the day! You want unlimited joy and strength? Continually tap into His presence where his joy and strength never run out!
You’re too hard on yourself! Don’t put so much pressure on yourself to be successful or significant. Jesus already paid for your significance when He saw you as valuable enough to die for. There’s no need to look at age or compare yourself to others. God’s got a plan and a process for you, trust it! You’re only part is to stay connected to Him!
Take a moment to read and meditate on John 15 today. Ask yourself, “How connected and I to the presence of God?” And “What things do I need to change or repent for in order to get closer to God?”
